An envelope poem

In the corner of an envelope

Pinned tight against the wall

Minuscule but mighty

Two inches captures and enthrals

Reading like a scrap of scholarship

Like an enigma rising

Striving for its own simplicity

A like mind left surmising

A fragment borne of intellect

A fleeting moment thwarted

Crossed out – re-entered – rhythmic sense –

The passionate are courted

Amherst beckons – gravestone notes

Her imagery imposing

Finding a forever-spot –

For a little force – exploding
