I walked the road of timeliness
With patience in my pocket
On a rock I lit a cigarette
And caught my breath upon it
I looked from hillside to the sea
Old windows streamed around me
Strangers one and all observed
A righteous life had found me
I stubbed the butt into the earth
With my foot – now old and ageing
And looked toward my resting place
With friends – my presence – waiting
Slower than in younger times
When ‘swift’ (a clear description)
I stumbled past the steps I knew
And abandoned predilections
In older times – a bluster – blowing
Caught me – unbeknown
As seasons came and left behind
The scent of flowers – sown
A sense of reminiscence struck
Regard outlasts regret
I grew into my older years
Be bold – be better yet
