The shallow sea

He stood before the shallow sea

And wondered what went wrong

If only for the simple things

Like solitude and song

He stood before the shallow sea

And thought that he’d have plenty

But then desire came along

And ‘fore he knew he’d spent it

The window opened once again

The sunshine danced along

He looked below to roses bloomed

and soon he saw a throng

The throng of roses flowered now -

Enact it if you could

The petals were a mass of red

The scent well understood

He knew his acts were his alone

And within his own belief

A second chance had welcomed him

'twas more than just relief

  1. It’s a beautiful and poetic reflection on the fleeting nature of desire and the importance of finding contentment in the simple things in life. The imagery of the shallow sea and the blooming roses is particularly striking. It’s a reminder to appreciate the present moment and to find joy in the things that bring us peace and solitude. Thank you for sharing this piece of writing.
